Specialization – treatment of vascular diseases and circulatory disorders, the Doctor was one of the first to use the technique of implantation of stents (a special micro-frame for the expansion of veins and arteries). This new approach has become the "gold" standard in the treatment of circulatory disorders in the cervical vessels and the prevention of stroke. The Professor is the author and co-author of more than 200 scientific papers. He taught advanced placement courses in internal medicine and angiology.

President of the European Association of cardiothoracic surgery (EACTS), he heads the research programs on lung transplantation at the University clinic of Vienna. Professor Klepetko is also the head of the Department of thoracic surgery at the Central clinical hospital of Vienna (AKH). Specialization: lung cancer, lung transplantation, surgical treatment of pulmonological hypertension, surgery of functional lung diseases.
